A Chef’s Story

I ❤️ New York

Chef Jean-Georges first visited the Fulton Fish Market in 1986, buying seafood for the first restaurant where he worked in New York at the bustling market in the heart of the Seaport. As one of the world’s most renowned chefs, his inventiveness and his dedication to fresh, local, sustainable ingredients have revolutionized how New Yorkers eat forever. The Tin Building is Chef Jean-Georges’ tribute to the city that made him, and his opportunity to share the very best in food and hospitality.

The Building

The ultimate food destination restored & reimagined

For nearly 200 years, fishmongers gathered by the waters of New York’s East River to sell seafood at The Fulton Fish Market. One of the largest wholesale seafood markets in the world, the Tin Building served as the backdrop to this intersection of commerce and culture, supporting immigrants and entire families for generations. Built in 1907, the building survived blazes and storms, and outlived mayors and presidents, before its closure in 2005. Today, after more than eight years of meticulous restoration, the Tin Building begins a new chapter as New York’s culinary epicenter.
